UNISON is delighted to be one of the sponsors for this year’s UK Pride event, which is being held in Doncaster.
This year’s event, on Saturday 10 August, is being held in Town Field in the city, at a specially erected Pride Site. Around 20-thousand day visitors are anticipated to attend the event.
Every year, Pride organisers from across the country decide where the national event will be hosted. There are around 260 volunteer-run events like Doncaster in the UK.
Doncaster Pride organisers are hoping every pride in the UK will be represented in the annual parade.
There will be three event spaces on the day – the main ‘Pride Stage’ which UNISON is sponsoring, the City Stage, as well as the Cabaret Marquee.
There will also be a Youth Pride area for under-18s, providing entertainment and activities.
A Family Zone and Trans+ Zone will also be on site, as well as a Rainbow Market, which will include retail stalls and gifts.
UNISON is particularly pleased to be sponsoring UK Pride this year, as 2024 is the union’s Year of LGBT+ Workers, which aims to engage LGBT+ workers and grow their influence within the union.
UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside regional secretary Karen Loughlin said: “It’s wonderful to have UK Pride in Doncaster this year, and I’m delighted UNISON can play a part in it.
“The union is focusing on engaging LGBT+ workers this year, so to be involved in the country’s showpiece Pride event this year is fantastic – especially here in Yorkshire!”
Doncaster Pride chairperson Jen Dewsnap said: “Doncaster Pride is really looking forward to hosting the UK Pride event for 2024 as part of our UK Pride Host City year.
“The main event is when all the planning and hard work come to fruition, and we hope we deliver a pride that the people of Doncaster are proud of.
“It’s been a long time in the making and it’s getting very close. We can’t wait to show you all what we’ve been planning since our award of host city back in October 2022.”
