Growth is at the heart of rebuilding public services, says UNISON

Commenting on the chancellor of the exchequer’s speech today (Wednesday) outlining plans for revitalising the economy, UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said:

“For far too long, the UK has coasted along without looking after its infrastructure.

“Rachel Reeves is right to put the focus on investing for the future. Improving transport, building homes, creating jobs and developing new industries are key to boosting the economy.

“Growth also means it’ll be possible for real investment in public services, to get the NHS off its knees, create a national care service and bring councils back from the brink.

“It’s vital that any major infrastructure decisions are taken in line with the UK’s net-zero goals. And any review of disability benefits must make them work better for those who need help, not act as a cover for cutbacks.”
