The region’s annual branch officer training weekend, which brings together activists from across Yorkshire and Humberside, was held in Leeds over the weekend, with dozens of members attending.
The two-day event saw activists take part in one of four different branch officer courses being held – Branch Chair: Chairing Meetings, Communications Officer, Equalities Officer and International Officer – as well as attending plenary sessions on the Employment Rights Bill, and the rise of Reform.
The weekend also gave participants to network in and informal setting with members from other parts of the region, as well as with UNISON regional staff.
UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside regional secretary Karen Loughlin said: “The branch officer training weekend is always a key date in the year, and I’m delighted this year’s has gone so well.
“It’s always inspiring to see activists from across the region come together to develop their skills, not just from the courses they take part in but from networking with other activists too.
“Branch officers have fed back that they feel more confident in organising campaigns, communicating key messages from the union and pushing for better pay and conditions.
“That’s exactly what the weekend is all about, and I’m so pleased to hear it’s been so useful for so many participants.”
