Staff employed by West Yorkshire Combined Authority are set to strike for 24 hours next week in an ongoing pay dispute.
Workers including front line staff, transport planners, IT and admin staff and project managers are to walk out for 24 hours on Monday (12 January) after a meeting with the employer failed to bring an improved offer.
Staff have already held a 72-hour strike, which took place last month.
Workers had requested an increase of 5% above inflation, which the union says is a reasonable claim given the rise in household costs and the demands of their roles. The employer countered with a significantly lower 3.2% offer that was five months after the union submitted the offer, and three months after the pay rise was due.
UNISON says a meeting held with the employer this week failed to see any significant improvement, meaning the strike next week will go ahead.
The union says the staff carry out vital operational work to ensure bus, rail and wider transport services across West Yorkshire run efficiently and safely.
They are key workers in the transport sector who deserve to be paid fairly.
UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside regional organiser Rianne Hooley said: “These workers provide a crucial service which allows thousands of people across West Yorkshire to use public transport with confidence.
“They are simply asking to be paid fairly for the work they do.
“It’s time for managers to acknowledge the important tasks they carry out and put forward an acceptable offer.”
