UNISON is again holding its Black History Month awards evening in October, following the success of previous events. The 2025 event is being hosted in Rotherham!

Who, what, where, when why?
Who?
This year’s event is being hosted by UNISON Rotherham Metropolitan Borough branch.
What?
The event will recognise and celebrate those who promote, encourage and support diversity and inclusion through eight different categories:
- Lifetime Achievement Award: Honouring an individual who has dedicated many years to advancing racial justice, equality and fairness in their workplace, union or community. A recognition of sustained impact and legacy.
- Community Champion Award: Celebrating someone who has gone above and beyond to support their community, strengthen solidarity and promote inclusion and respect for all.
- Inspirational Leadership Award: Recognising an individual who has shown outstanding leadership in promoting equality, empowering others and creating positive change.
- Young Trailblazer Award: For young people (aged under 30) who are making a difference through activism, creativity, or leadership and inspiring the next generation.
- Workplace Equality Award: Acknowledging the efforts of an individual, team, activists or organisation who have worked to challenge discrimination and promote fairness and inclusion at work.
- Culture & Heritage Award: Celebrating contributions from an individual, team, activist or organisation that preserve, share and uplift Black history, culture and heritage whether through education or community initiatives.
- Social Justice & Solidarity Award: Recognising an individual, team, activist or organisation who have taken a stand against racism and injustice and who work to build unity, fairness and equality in society.
- Allyship Award: For individuals who, while not from a Black background themselves have actively and consistently stood in solidarity with Black communities using their platform to challenge racism and discrimination.

Why?
After the success of previous events held in Leeds and Sheffield, UNISON is again holding the awards night to continue celebrating and recognising individuals who promote, encourage and support diversity and inclusion across the region.
