This course is a one day course that helps women members to explore the possibilities of getting more involved in the union. It gives an outline of the way the union works and invites women to explore their own skills and how they can use them.

Also consider the power language has on our perceptions and to emphasise the significance of language in the promotion of equality, whilst allaying fears around correct use of terminology. During the course you will learn how to recognise depression symptoms & spot the early warning signs, consider practical steps to support wellbeing, develop self-care and wellbeing plans to support oneself and others plus identify ways to build a mentally healthy workplace.

This course is open to all branch officers and reps.

Years of outsourcing of public services have led to substantial deterioration in services and in the terms and conditions of members. Now some public organisations are open to the idea of bringing services back in house.

This course aims to persuade employers, members, and the public of the benefits of insourcing and will cover the following areas:

• Winning the arguments
• Identifying key targets
• Identifying allies
• Agitating for change and building a campaign
• Creating an action time-line

This face to face training looks at what the roles of the steward are and gives you the skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out these roles, for example recruiting members and involving them in the union and how to work with members to tackle problems at work.

This course will run on 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 November 2024.

This course is 30 hours learning in total.

It’s vital to understand what employers actually want, and match your experience in and outside of work to their needs. During this course we will cover CVs, application forms and interview skills.

This  2 day course is designed to follow on from the 5 day Organising Stewards course or equivalent and is aimed at existing UNISON stewards. The course reinforces some approaches and procedures introduced in the 5 day course and explores in more detail:

• Process for identifying needs and exploring what is and isn’t a case
• Recap on sources of information especially the ACAS code
• Preparing for a grievance and a capability case
• Planning and building a case including interviewing witnesses
• Possible outcomes from cases.

Aimed at Black members, this in person Empowered Leadership session is designed for the individual to identify the links between empowerment and successful leadership. It will demonstrate the power of language and communication in affecting positive changes, within the workplace and the home environment. It will also explore what it means to take responsibility and how your thinking can create your reality.

In attending this session you will recognise different types of Interviews you may encounter. Delivered by National Careers Service.
