People are becoming increasingly intolerant of inappropriate comments being made in the workplace. However, is there a way we can call people out on these comments without creating arguments?

This session offers effective methods for allowing people to reflect on the problems of their comments without relying on passive-aggressive or “myth-busting” techniques.

We explore practises that seek to understand people’s perspectives, rather than focus on their objectionable conclusions.

We cannot let the place of work be a place of prejudicial or discriminatory language – but we need be constructive in our approach to all everyone to grow.

Organising Steward Virtual Training

Our virtual steward course delivers the same learning outcomes as the face-to-face Stage 1 + Stage 2 workplace representatives course combination.

This course looks at what the roles of the steward are and gives you the skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out these roles, for example recruiting members and involving them in the union and how to work with members to tackle problems at work.

How to raise issues in UNISON
Proportionality and fair representation
Interviewing members
Understanding your grievance and disciplinary procedures.
This course will be accredited through East Riding College.  This course is 30 hours learning in total.

Neurodiversity is an umbrella term for autism, dyslexia, ADHD and dyspraxia. The session will explore strengths of neurodiverse individuals and workplace barriers.

Please note that this training is aimed at new Branch Secretaries and is the online equivalent to the training run at our Branch Officer Training. If you have already attended the Branch Secretary training at our Branch Officer Training events, then this training will not be relevant to you.

UNISON Workplace Reps Refresher Virtual Training

8 – 16 June 2021

This virtual training course will be delivered in 4 modules and it is designed to meet the requirements of the Employment Rights Act (ERA) re-accreditation for further training of steward and workplace reps.

The course aims to:
• Update reps on new legislation
• Introduce new developments within UNISON
• Share skills and experience to further develop approach as a UNISON rep
