Equality is written into our rule book and into our objectives and policies, but making equality part and parcel of everyday business is no small task. Making equality central to your union practice is a course that explores internal and external tools, which can support equality bargaining, negotiating, and representation. The course also looks at how to identify equality themes in organising and recruitment, as well as considering the different equality roles in UNISON and how you can utilise their support.

This three-module course is designed to support branch activists to plan a strategy to engage with environmental issues in the workplace and at a wider level.

Dates and times: 14, 21, 28 July 2023 (3 x Fridays, 10:30-12:30)

The virtual course will be delivered via Microsoft Teams. Participants must attend all three sessions to complete the course.

UNISON Ambassador Programme by Show Racism the Red Card

UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside Region have secured funding to run the Ambassador programme that will be delivered by Show Racism the Red Card.   

The purpose of this programme is to encourage those attending to be ambassadors for UNISONs anti-racism campaigning and to work with branches and the region to challenge racism more effectively.  Sessions will be a mixture of presentations, inspirational speakers and group work via breakout rooms.  The sessions are designed to give an increased understanding of anti-racism activism, extend knowledge of what racism is and how it impacts on individuals (both targets and perpetrators) and society.

Dates: 7, 14, 28 February, 7, 14, 28 March 2023 (running for 6 sessions) 

Time: 10:00-13:00 each day

During this short virtual workshop you will: consider the role of a trans ally and why it is needed; explore UNISON’s definition of Transgender; understand what you can do to be a good trans ally and know where to find resources and support.
