UNISON members at Yorkshire Ambulance Service strike over pay and staffing

I support ambulance staff. Put NHS pay right

UNISON members at Yorkshire Ambulance Service strike over pay and staffing.

Paramedics, emergency care assistants, ambulance technicians and other 999 crew members are among those who will be on picket lines from midday to midnight.

UNISON members working for Yorkshire Ambulance Service along with their colleagues in the North West, North East, South West and London will commence their first day of industrial action.

The walkout coincides with action being taken by two other unions – GMB and Unite – at several ambulance services.

In addition, a strike involving nurses, porters, healthcare assistants, cleaners and other NHS workers at two Liverpool hospitals is also happening today.

UNISON representative Scott Everitt told Channel 4 news- “I think the government relies too much on the compassion of the NHS. The ambulance service is under extreme pressure. Ambulance services are regularly stacking hundreds of calls. Where does it stop? When does the government say ‘enough is enough- we need to invest, get a future plan’”

UNISON Regional Organiser Megan Ollerhead told BBC Radio Sheffield: “Staff have made an extremely difficult decision today to take strike action. Things will not get better in the NHS until the government takes action on pay and gives them a pay rise they deserve”.
