This online course is designed to help existing and potential Branch Secretaries to carry out their role effectively. As well as examining the role of the Branch Secretary and the branch itself, the course focuses on the skills branch secretaries need and look at developing a team approach to branch work.

This online training will take place on the dates and times shown below:-

Module 1 – 8 December 10.30am to Noon;
Module 2 – 9 December 10.30am to 12.30pm;
Module 3 – 10 December 10.30am to Noon.

This online course will be delivered in 4 modules and it is designed to meet the requirements of the Employment Rights Act (ERA) re-accreditation for further training of steward and workplace reps.

The course aims to:
• Update reps on new legislation

Training aim: To increase the confidence of staff to deal with emotionally challenging conversations in a caring way.

Learning objectives:
• Increase confidence of staff to deal with emotionally challenging conversations in a caring way
• Recognise the difference between sympathy and empathy
• Be aware of the signs that someone is suffering traumatic stress
• Tips to listen actively and be supportive
• Look at ways to help someone feel less anxious Look after yourself after being on an emotional call

The Organising Steward

Non-residential at UNISON Regional Centre, Leeds

This course looks at what the roles of the steward are and gives you the skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out these roles, for example recruiting members and involving them in the union and how to work with members to tackle problems at work.
