A Christmas message from our regional secretary Karen Loughlin, and regional convenor Wendy Nichols:
“As we approach Christmas and the end of 2023, it feels an appropriate time to look back on the year we’ve had, and to say thank you for all the support we’ve received.
There has been an incredible turnout to so many of our picket lines this year – from the beginning of the year for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service strikes, continued support for industrial action at the University of Leeds, right through to the recent Barnsley College picket line support. That’s not even mentioning Kirklees College picket lines, the strike at Humberside Airport and many more along the way.
So thank you for turning out to show support, and thank you for helping us celebrate our wins, too. We secured another pay rise for workers at the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield, as well as a rise for cemetery maintenance staff in Rotherham and workers at Humberside Airport.
It’s not just been pay wins you’ve helped us celebrate. We’ve had partnership pledges with local NHS trusts to ensure students get the most out of their placements, anti-racism charters signed, and a special Black History Month Awards event in Sheffield.
All of these wonderful things which have happened during 2023 wouldn’t have been anywhere near as successful without your support, so thank you again. Have a lovely Christmas period and new year, and we’ll look to make 2024 even better.”
