A show of support for Rotherham gravediggers at this year’s Rotherham Show

A team from UNISON Rotherham enjoyed the sunshine at Rotherham Show at Clifton Park over the weekend, and used the opportunity to drum up support for Rotherham gravediggers.

The cemetery maintenance staff are in an ongoing dispute over their pay – you can read more about it here.

A number of local politicians, including Rotherham MP Sarah Champion, visited the UNISON stall to show their support by signing a petition.

Workers from Rotherham Crematorium also visited the UNISON stall over the weekend.

Local media were also at the show, and took the time to speak to the UNISON Rotherham team.

UNISON Rotherham branch secretary Ruth Askwith said: “Rotherham Show is a brilliant opportunity for us to meet lots of people face to face and talk to them.

“While it’s a great chance to get out in the sunshine for a lovely day out, it’s also a chance for people to find out more about the struggles workers are facing, like the gravediggers.

“I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who stopped by and signed the petition to show support.”
