UNISON branches across the region mark International Workers Memorial Day

UNISON branches from across the Yorkshire and Humberside region took part in a number of ceremonies to mark International Workers Memorial Day on Sunday.

The day is a time to remember those who have died either because of a workplace accident, ill health or diseases as a result of work.

A number of events were held across Yorkshire and Humberside to mark the day.

UNISON Rotherham branch laid a wreath at an event in the town held on Friday, attended by a number of branch members including branch chair Martin, branch welfare officer Anthony and branch secretary Kerri (pictured below, left to right).

Representatives from UNISON Barnsley attended an International Workers Memorial Day event in the town on Friday. Branch vice chair Simon laid a wreath from the branch at the event, which was organised by Barnsley Trade Union Council and attended by a number of trade union representatives, local councillors and Barnsley Mayor Mick Stowe.

UNISON Leeds Teaching Hospitals and UNISON University of Leeds were among several trade union branches to attend an International Workers Memorial Day event outside the art gallery in Leeds. UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside regional manager Tony Pearson was among the speakers, along with Leeds City Council leader James Lewis and chief executive Tom Riordan.

UNISON West Yorkshire Police marked the day by laying a wreath, made by branch treasurer Debs, by the board for those who’ve lost their lives whilst working for West Yorkshire Police.
