Strike dates confirmed for Humberside Airport workers, says UNISON

Workers at Humberside Airport will strike on three separate occasions during October and November in their pay dispute, UNISON says today (Wednesday).

Employees will walk out at 4.30am on Tuesday 17 October for 24 hours, then a 48 hour strike will take place from 4.30am on Tuesday 31 October.

A 72 hour strike is also planned for Tuesday 14 November, with staff again walking out at 4.30am, not returning to work until 4.30am on Friday 17 November.

Firefighters, refuellers, security staff, travel shop staff and cleaners will all take part in the strikes.

UNISON Yorkshire and Humberside regional organiser Michael Parkinson said: “Strike action is always a last resort in a pay dispute – and UNISON is trying hard to find a solution with the employer to avoid it happening.

“We’re meeting with management this week and hopefully we can reach some kind of agreement.

“Staff feel undervalued. They want the employer to recognise the loyalty and dedication they’ve shown, especially during the covid pandemic.

“The company which owns the airport is profitable, and we believe they can comfortably afford a pay rise for staff.

“It’s up to airport management to meet with the union and put forward an acceptable pay offer.”
